Why We Love Helping People
Dr. Farkas chose a career in neuroscience because she believes effective psychiatric care must begin with a deep understanding of the brain itself. Mental health conditions are not abstract—they are rooted in complex neurobiological processes that demand more than surface-level treatment. Her dual MD/PhD training gave her rare insight into the biochemical, structural, and functional mechanisms driving psychiatric illness. Early in her career, Dr. Farkas worked in pharmaceutical research, helping to develop medications like cariprazine—now widely used for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. This experience provided her with firsthand knowledge of how psychiatric medications are created, tested, and refined—insight most clinicians never gain. Notably, cariprazine has demonstrated significant efficacy in treatment-resistant schizophrenia, as outlined in research published by the National Institutes of Health.
Her transition from research to clinical practice wasn’t a departure—it was a deliberate step toward putting science into action. Dr. Farkas is committed to translating the latest psychiatric research into measurable patient improvements. Specializing in treatment-resistant and diagnostically complex cases allows her to apply that expertise where it’s needed most. She believes patients who haven’t responded to standard care are not “difficult”—they are underserved. They require a more sophisticated, individualized, and evidence-based approach. Through comprehensive evaluations, meticulous medication planning, and an unwavering “do no harm” philosophy, Dr. Farkas helps patients find clarity, regain control, and finally experience meaningful relief—often after years of frustration.
