My goal is not just to manage symptoms — it's to understand why they're happening and build a plan that can actually work long-term.
— Dr. Gabriella Farkas, MD, PhDA scientist who
became a healer
Dr. Gabriella Farkas didn't take the conventional path to psychiatry. She spent years as a neuroscientist — studying the cellular and molecular architecture of mood disorders at Rockefeller University, one of only four NIH-designated research centers for schizophrenia nationwide — before completing her medical training at Columbia and her psychiatry residency at NYU Langone.
That research background isn't incidental. It shapes how she thinks about every patient: not as a set of symptoms to suppress, but as a biological and psychological puzzle worth solving. For patients who have been through multiple treatments without success, this approach is often transformative.
She has particular expertise in treatment-resistant depression, bipolar spectrum disorders, postpartum psychiatric conditions, and complex cases where prior evaluations have been incomplete or incorrect.
Dr. Farkas practices on Hilton Head Island and serves patients across three states via telehealth — bringing academic medical center-quality expertise to patients regardless of geography.
